Patio doors are particularly vulnerable to thieves and so you should carefully check their security. Hook bolt mortice deadlocks are suitable for most wooden patio doors (again manufactured to at least British Standard BS6321).

Alternatively you could use top and bottom key operated patio locks.

Again UPVC or Aluminium type doors will usually have a key operated multipoint locking system fitted by the manufacturer and so are already secure.
