Why Brits must have a break
Concerns about rising bills, such as home insurance premiums, may well be causing all sorts of worries, but Multiroom, the travel agency search engine provider, has found that bookings for holidays have risen by an extra 40 per cent during these first three months of 2008.
It appears that when people chose to cut back on their budgets, holidays are regarded as a priority.
Chris Nourse, of Multicom, says: "Years ago, holidays abroad were seen as a luxury for the few who could afford them.
"Now, it seems they are being seen more and more as an essential which people refuse to give up just because they have less money in their pocket after paying their other bills."
The Office for National Statistics has seen a year on year rise in
vacation bookings - UK residents made a record 41.2 million holiday
trips in 2003.
