Warning issued over likelihood of negligence in insurance

British tourists have been warned that if they are to make a claim abroad then their chances of success may be hindered if they have had a drink.

The warning came from Francis Tuke, spokesperson for the Association of British Travel Agents, but the importance can be applied to home insurance also.

If home insurance policy holders fail to take due care of their belongings, in the same way a drunken tourist may leave themselves vulnerable to robbery, then the amount rewarded in the event of a disaster could be reduced.

As such it is important to make sure security is taken care of at home, and that smoke detectors are working and flood defences are fully functional, in order to reduce the chances of a home insurance company claiming the policy holder was negligent.

Making sure you are aware of all the small print in a policy is crucial in obtaining an appropriate level of cover.
