University students advised to take out home insurance
With the new academic year starting, thousands of students will be moving in to new housing with their most prized and precious possessions.
However, a student accommodation company has advised that students should be considering getting home insurance to cover their belongings in case the worst happens.
Manchester Student Homes, a private sector firm, stated that while university halls of residence do offer safety in numbers, students should still be careful and take out cover regardless of their accommodation.
Cooper Healey, manager of the company, said: "We always suggest that you take out contents insurance; there is a chance that you will become a victim of crime.
"I would suggest that it is important for a student to take out insurance wherever they are living," she added.
Ms Healey also stated that halls of residence should consider offering home insurance as part of the rent prices.
By getting home contents insurance, students will be protecting their belongings against the unseen, including theft and fire.
