Thoughtless thieves cause damage

Even if a burglar doesn't manage to enter the house, the amount of damage to door lintels, locks and window surrounds can cost hundreds of pounds to put right.
Homeserve, the national emergency home repair service, has estimated that the average cost of break-in damage is £740 and cost the UK insurance companies and uninsured victims in excess of £546 million last year alone.
Jon Florsheim, chief executive officer of Homeserve membership, said: "At a time when many face escalating costs for other household bills such as mortgage repayments, petrol and energy, people do not want to be surprised with additional costs.
"We would therefore urge homeowners to ensure they have adequate cover in the event of an emergency."
