The straw house the wolf could not blow down

A house made of nothing but straw and hemp and been given the thumbs up after passing a standard fire safety test. The test, which exposed the straw and hemp panel to heat of up to 1,000 degrees, withstood the soaring heat for more than 2 hours. The house has been built at the University of Bath and hopes that this revolutionary structure will lead the way for houses in the future. The house is made from renewable materials, which withstood a variety of structural tests making it a perfect candidate for future builds.

The channel 4 presenter Kevin McCloud of Grand Designs will officially open the house later on today. After the house has been officially opened researchers from the University will monitor the house for a year documenting the humidity levels, insulating properties, air tightness and sound insulation in order to asses how the building copes under the everyday conditions it will face in the UK.
