Struggling to budget - look to your lunch
Householders looking to save money for increases in utility bills and home insurance premiums should look no further than their eating habits whilst away from their home.
New research by PruHealth, the private health insurance provider, reveals that Brits are a nation of 'part-timers' when it comes to healthy living, with four in five employees regularly eating unhealthy and expensive, high calorie treats, such as chocolate, pastries and crisps, whilst at work or during the commute.
Office-bound staff fare worse than builders, who are more likely to take lunch boxes including nutritious salads, with over half of construction workers saying that they make their own sandwiches. Two thirds of teaching staff also bring in their own food rather than going out for take-aways or shop-bought sandwiches.
Katie Roswell, marketing director at PruHealth, says: "It can be difficult to eat a balanced diet while at work, particularly if working hours are unpredictable or if you're pressed for time.
Grabbing a sandwich from a shop might seem like a healthy, quick-fix option, but it can sometimes be difficult to judge how nutritious the contents actually are."
