Sport equipment not looked after to gold-medal standard

Amateur sportsmen and women often spend a good deal of time researching
and purchasing the best equipment they can afford. It appears that they
then fail to look after it!

Eastbourne has just been awarded the LTA mens' competition alongside the Ladies' pre-Wimbledon preparation, Manchester is currently hosting the World short-course Swimming Championships, London is anticipating 2012 as well as this weekend's marathon, and this weekend also sees the
Augusta US Masters golf, yet many households have bags of golf clubs,
fishing tackle, exercise bikes and racquets stored away in unlocked
sheds, or languishing in garages.

Four in ten bicycle owners admit they haven't sat in the saddle in the
last six months.

Emma Holyer, spokesperson for LV= home insurance, said: "It's easy to
forget how much it costs to replace sporting equipment such as golf
clubs.

"We tend to think that the most costly things to replace are jewellery
or electronics, but sporting equipment can cost hundreds if not
thousands of pounds for specialist kit. As electronics become
increasingly difficult to sell on, some thieves are now targeting
sporting equipment as it is easy to sell on the black market."
