Rise in dodgy repair work blamed on economic crisis

Posted on June 19th 2009

A survey conducted by Lloyds TSB Insurance has revealed a significant rise in the number of cases of faulty repair work being reported in the UK.

More than 4.6 million cases of sub-standard building work have been recorded in the last 12 months with one in ten people forced to make a claim on their insurance. The figures represent a 16 rise on last year.

Britons have paid an average of £1,250 to repair dodgy building work with unregistered plumbers and builders cited as the worst offenders.

The dramatic rise in the number of botched repair jobs is being blamed on the economic downturn as homeowners looking for cut-price deals fall victim to rogue traders.
