Replacing lost keys 'expensive and time-consuming'
Replacing lost car keys is not just time consuming but can be very expensive, according to a report from a leading car breakdown insurance provider.
Britannia Rescue has concluded that apart from having a new set of keys cut, which can cost over £300 to make and programme, there is additional expense in re-setting car security alarm systems, de-activated as a result of vehicle break-ins.
Home insurance does not usually cover loss of car keys but some car breakdown cover will.
Martin Milliner, of Britannia rescue, said: "We get many call-outs from customers who need help getting back into their cars.
"Some common but unsuitable places to keep spare keys include hand-bags, or on the same key-ring as the main set, which is not much help if you lose them."
Britannia Rescue is the country's leading provider of roadside rescue and has approximately 300,000 customers.
It was sold on May 17th 2007 and is now owned by Liverpool Friendly Assurance Co.
