Property safeguarded against future flooding

Posted on June 12th 2009

A homeowner in Uckinghall is looking forward to moving back in to her home, which had to be rebuilt after it was destroyed in the harsh floods of 2007.

The woman, who has been living in a small touring caravan outside her home since August 2007, will be moving back in to her flood resistant property this week. The property was totally destroyed by water that rose to four and a half feet damaging the 16th century cottage, including wooden beams that were turned to dust.

The cottage, which at one point was just a shell, has been fitted with electrics that can work independently for the upstairs and downstairs and a waterproof kitchen. The rebuild has cost a considerable amount of money to protect it against any future flooding.

Flood defences are currently being put in place to protect Uckinghall from flooding again, however the homeowner hopes that her revamped property will not be put to the test anytime soon.
