Pint-sized problems
Youngsters, currently taking a break from studies on spring-time school holidays, can be the cause of a great deal of accidental damage.
Almost three-quarters of households have suffered from wall daubing, furniture damage or broken windows during the past decade, costing, on average, £140.61.
Nine out of ten parents of teenagers say that they have experienced their offspring's clumsiness as they break crockery, but one in six parents then punishes the culprit by stopping their pocket money until the cost is paid back.
Lloyd Wilson, Head of Abbey Insurance, says: "School holidays are prime time for breakages so parents be warned.
"Although it can be expected that children will clumsily damage household items, the cost of replacing damaged goods can come as a nasty shock. £140 or more to repair or replace broken items is no small amount to find, so it's worth making sure your insurance policy covers every item in your home for accidental damage."
