Pensioner crashes car into a house

Posted on July 29th 2008

A home in Torquay was damaged after an 82-year-old man ploughed into the front of the property in his car.

The pensioner, who had been visiting a friend in Princes Road, Ellacombe, lost control of the Ford Fiesta at around 23:15 last Saturday (July 19th) and crashed into the house.

Firefighters, police officers and an ambulance arrived on the scene and took the man to hospital, although he was later released without any injuries.

Neighbour Sarah Dytor, 28, told This is South Devon website: "I looked out of the window and saw a car had crashed into the front of the house opposite.

"I was really scared at first, I had been watching The Living and the Dead horror film and the sudden noise really made me jump.

"At first I thought it was teenagers messing around, but when I saw what had happened I called 999.

"The elderly man was apparently trying to reverse and shot across the road."
