Parties costing home owners millions

Partying children are costing parents millions of pounds in damages across the country, it has been found.

Recent research into the costs or repairing damaged goods after teenagers have held parties has found that parents are collectively shelling out £17 million each year to clear up the damage.

Most teenagers (91.4 per cent) organise parties under the supervision of parents, or at least on their authority, but the remaining 8.6 per cent that hold parties without permission are the cause of £1.4 million worth of damage.

But it is stressed that parents check their home insurance before allowing their children to have a large party, as if things are too rowdy, their home contents insurance may refuse to cover the claim.

"When such events get out of hand some insurers may suggest that the homeowner failed to take due care of the property and could refuse to pay up," said one insurance analyst.
