Parents urged to reassess contents insurance during party season
Parents are being warned to check their home insurance policies during results week, after reports throughout the year of networking sites turning parties in to mass-raves.
Contents insurance must be checked if your children are opening their GCSE or A-Level results this month, and will be celebrating, as without fully comprehensive cover there could be some nasty financial surprises if an unruly guest breaks an expensive piece of furniture.
Rachael Stiles, spokesperson for one financial advice website, said: "If, for example your child's party gets out of hand and your property and its contents are damaged, there are no guarantees that the insurance will pay out."
Ms Stiles suggested that insurance companies are in no way obliged to pay out if due care has not been taken to protect the property.
"Monitoring guests at your child's party may make you look over protective but it could save you money should accidental or malicious damage occur," she added.
