Oil thieves target households heating fuel

Residents in North Wales are being advised to step up their security measurements on their heating oil containers after a serious of oil thefts in Denbighshire and Conwy.
Over the past year, following the rise in oil prices, nationally there has been an increase in theft of heating oil, leaving hardship to families and the elderly who can’t afford to refill their tanks, but even since the prices fell incidents are still being reported leaving people without heating in these cold harsh months.
A school in Wales found that someone and helped themselves to a large quantity of their heating oil during the Christmas break.
By installing simple measures, including security lighting, locks or even planting thorny shrubs around your oil tank could prevent the thieves from taking any oil.
Farmers have also been advised by the North Wales police to lock up their filler pipes after refuelling their tractors.
