Motorists still not covered despite flooding threat
With the insurance industry gearing up to pay out millions of pounds in claims following the flooding over the last few says, uSwitch.com has warned that a significant number of UK motorists are still not protected against further damage.
According to uSwith.com, one in four motorists only have third party insurance and are therefore not covered against flooding damage.
This tactic may be lucrative in the short term - as third party insurance holders will reduce outlay by only paying for a non-comprehensive policy - but could be detrimental in the long run if disaster strikes.
These people are therefore advised to secure comprehensive cover - especially those who live in areas with a high risk of flooding.
However, it is likely that those living in parts of the country prone to flooding will have to pay more for their car insurance premiums if they are forced to make a claim.
The price comparison website suggests that hike could be as much as 26 per cent.
Homeowners are also advised to ensure their properties are protected against the risk of flooding - and with more rain forecast this could be a particularly prudent move.
