Man left in intensive care after blaze

Posted on July 25th 2008

A man from Liverpool was left fighting for his life after a fire broke out in his home yesterday (July 24th) morning.

Richie Lloyd, 59, was dragged unconscious out of the living room of the building by firefighters who arrived on the scene and managed to resuscitate him in the front garden.

However, he was taken to the intensive care unit at Fazakerley Hospital and is thought to be in a serious condition, despite the best efforts of neighbour and brother-in-law Joey Wilson.

Mr Wilson, 45, attempted to enter the house to wake Mr Lloyd, who was asleep on the sofa when the blaze broke out at 03:30, but he was forced back by smoke.

He told the Liverpool Echo: "The smoke was unbelievable. I just instantly thought to get Richie out even though I didn't know where he was in the house.

"I went round the back but as soon as I opened the conservatory door, the gust of air just made it worse and I was pushed back by the smoke."

Mr Wilson also added that the fire crews informed him that the fact that Mr Lloyd was sleeping downstairs had probably saved his life.
