Laptop starts housefire in Wales
A terraced house was saved from destruction by a smoke alarm, firefighters in Wales have said this week.
Late on Saturday (November 1st) night a laptop suffered an electrical fault and set light to the sofa it was rested upon in Penmaenmawr, News Wales reported.
A smoke alarm alerted the residents, a man and a woman, to the fire, who then evacuated their home.
John Morgan, fire safety enforcement officer, said: "The occupants in this case were all able to make their way safely out the building prior to the arrival of the emergency service simply because the smoke alarm operated.
"Without such early warning an incident such as this could easily become another tragic waste of life in North Wales. I cannot see any reason why people do not have this basic item that has the potential to save their life, fitted and working in the home."
