Keeping hold of the receipts
This May bank holiday weekend will see many families enjoying the post-Chelsea flower show opportunity to get out in their own gardens and to enjoy their outdoor spaces.
Home insurance policies, however, may well include an upper monetary limit for garden property, which if the cost of decking, tables, chairs and parasols, as well as garden tools, are all totted up can easily be exceeded.
Peter Gerrard, head of insurance research at moneysupermarket.com, said: "All providers differ on what is and isn't included within your cover for gardens - and the amounts.
"A lawnmower or other expensive items such as a barbecue or heater in your garden can be easy targets for thieves. If you have a landscaped garden with expensive plants or small elaborate statues, you would also be well advised to check the amount of garden cover you have."
