Investigation into low flying planes
The George Best Belfast City Airport has been under scrutiny recently, after claims from local residents that low flying planes have caused tiles to fall from their roofs. Katrin Irvine one of the local residents at Parkgate Crescent was woken by a "big bang" around 1pm Sunday. She was then shocked to find that around 30 tiles had dislodged from her roof and had scattered in neighbouring gardens.
A spokesman from the airport has stated that they would investigate and issue a report shortly. "All aircraft approaching the airfield do so in accordance with strict Civil Aviation Authority regulations."
The damage on the roof will not equate to much but if this sort of incident where to happen again residents may not be so lucky as a tile may cause injury to a passer by. Mrs Irvine was lucky on this occasion that her six-year-old daughter was playing at a friend's house and not in her garden as a falling tile could cause serious injury.
