House fire treated as suspicious
Police are treating as suspicious a house fire in Kilwinning, Ayrshire, after which a 32-year-old woman died in hospital.
The woman, Angela Brown, died in hospital after collapsing while trying to save her young children from the smoke-filled home.
Detective inspector Brian Semple, of Saltcoats CID, told the Evening Times: "Early indications suggest the fire may be suspicious and we would appeal to anyone with information to contact us.
"We cannot be sure if it was started deliberately or if it was accidental at this time but a full investigation over the next few days will shed some light into the cause.
"This is an absolute tragedy for a young mother to lose her life in this way and we are determined to find out what happened."
While nothing can ever make up for a life, homeowners can take some steps to protect themselves in the event of a less dangerous fire.
