House fire leaves Yorkshire family out of pocket
A foster carer and his family have escaped injury as they fled their burning home in south Yorkshire, it has been reported, only to find that their insurance policy has not covered their possessions.
Council caretaker Jack Barton, his wife Denise and their foster son fled their home as a neighbouring property was set alight in the summer.
All the items in Mr Barton's home were destroyed by the fire, but he was soon told that he was not covered by his insurance company as he had allegedly failed to report a previous nearby arson attack.
Mr Barton has claimed that he did indeed report the attack and had continued to pay his premiums for several months.
The story comes as a reminder to homeowners across the country to take it upon themselves to report all incidents that may invalidate an insurance policy, as the consequences of not doing so could be devastating.
