House sales up in Oxfordshire
According to statistics released from the Land Registry, Oxfordshire looks to have sold the most houses between the months of April and June 2009 than the rest of England.
April to June 2008 reported sales of 1,748 homes in Oxfordshire; this has risen by only 3 in the same period in 2009. April 2009 was looking bleak with only 502 sales but June figures increased to 659 showing more people are having confidence in the property market again. National statistics however show a gloomier picture, with sales of homes dropping by almost 20,000 compared to the 2 months in 2008.
Nationally Oxfordshire has the highest number of sales yet there is a sad trend as the number of house purchases dropped dramatically over the past 3 years, back in Feb 07 907 homes were sold, Feb 08 we saw 608, however Feb 09 only 273.
The statistics do not look great but are encouraging for home owners in the county who are looking to upgrade. The cost of housing is also increasing with a rise of 0.1 percent nationally, with the average home now costing £155,968, on the other hand Oxfordshire's prices have risen 0.8 percent to £219,729.
