House in Chorley evacuated after fire breaks out

Smoke alarms have once again proved their value as they save the lives of two families in Chorley on Saturday. Fire crews where alerted to the fires at around 2am after local residents called the emergency services notifying them that the families could still be trapped inside. When the emergency services arrived the discovered that a member of the family was still inside the house trying to extinguish the flames.

The resident was using pans of water in an effort to fight the flames, which did help keep the fire at bay but also put him in a great deal of danger.

Peter Bamber from Chorley fire department said: "Although this probably prevented the spread of fire to other parts of the house, his actions placed himself in immense danger of being completely overcome by the fire and smoke."

All five people where taken to hospital and treated for smoke inhalation, but no serious injuries were sustained.
