House fire caused by wheelie bin
Malicious damage was caused to one man's home after a youth set fire to the dustbin, which spread to his property.
The dustbin was set on fire by a teenager on his way home from a party. The fire spread to the wooden door frame of the flat, next to the alight dustbin. The occupier was woken by his smoke alarms however panic struck when he spotted flames through his glass panelled front door. The only way he could escape the fire was by jumping out of his living room window.
Police officers were first on site and tried to use a fire extinguisher to put out the fire, however the flames had reached so high that it was a job for the fire service.
£5,000 worth of damage was caused to the home in smoke damage, which could have been far worse if the smoke alarms were not in working order, risking the occupier's life.
