Homeowners advised to check insurance for sporting injuries

Sports fans are now being told to check their home insurance policies to ensure they are covered for personal injury liability, it has been reported.

Although most sporting injuries sustained at a friendly kick-about on a Sunday afternoon are shrugged off between friends, they are increasingly becoming the subject of claims against insurers.

Typically, home insurance will cover the policy holder against court action, but rugby players prone to dislocating the odd shoulder may need to check their policy twice before they go out on the field again.

The claims follow the American system, where an injured party sues the person responsible, relying on the insurance company of that person to pay out.

It is advised that homeowners assess their home insurance policies at all times, however, and especially when changing their lifestyle by having children or buying new electronics, for example.ADNFCR-1193-ID-18787469-ADNFCR
