Home insurance vital to protect against risk of accidents
The news that a couple from Hull have received a letter from a midwife's solicitor threatening legal action has prompted price comparison site comparethemarket.com to urge all homeowners to check to ensure they have adequate home insurance.
Michelle and James Walker stand accused of failing to provide a safe place of work for a visiting midwife by Caroline Waller's representatives Thomsons Solicitors.
Ms Waller alleges that she tripped over a child's buggy during a routine house visit three days after the birth of Mr and Mrs Walker's twin boys Oliver and Harry.
According to Jeremy Moll, an insurance expert from comparethemarket.com, large bills for accidents involving visitors to a home can be avoided through securing the right level of cover.
"The majority of insurers include building and contents liability cover as standard on their insurance policies," he commented.
Mr and Mrs Walker have contacted their solicitors with a view to contesting the case, and Mr Walker has publicly denied claims that there was an issue with the buggy.
"She certainly didn't fall or look like anything bad had happened," he said. "Everything was normal and she seemed fine."
