Home insurance claims 'avoided by using professionals'
Getting in the professionals could be the best way of avoiding household insurance claims and possible premium rises, according to research by Halifax.
In many cases, homeowners believe that making improvements to their property can help to significantly increase its value, with 51 per cent expecting their DIY to add a total of £5,000 to their home's worth.
However, poor DIY and sub-standard work can actually devalue a property and could even lead to increased household premiums if the improvements do not work out as planned or they cause actual damage to the property.
Patrick Sawdon of Halifax Valuers explained: "It's great to see that so many people are investing time and effort in improving their home. A word of caution though, poorly executed home improvements can actually detract from the value of your property."
