Government plans expert help to give UK homes energy makeovers by 2020
Posted on February 18th 2009
New proposals have been announced by the Government to help some 7million homes cut their carbon footprint by 2020.
The initiative, the Heat and Energy Saving Strategy, has been published for consultation and is aimed at helping the country to meet its target to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.
Proposals outlined in the initiative include providing finance packages so that households can install energy efficient measures, implementing low cost energy audits, introducing an incentive for renewable heating and a feed-in tariff for small scale generation of electricity.
Green groups welcomed the move but said that more should be done right now to tackle the already ambitious targets.
