Government gives go ahead for more council housing
2,000 council homes are going to be built nationwide with a budget of £127 million, following the go ahead by Housing Minister, John Healey, on Wednesday 9 September, bringing a boost to the construction industry and welcome news to towns across Britain.
One town that is delighted with the news is Hartlepool, which has been given £5 million to start the building of 45 new social housing properties for the first time since the Conservatives scrapped the build of local authority housing back in the 1980's.
The properties, which will be owned by the council and managed by Housing Hartlepool who currently own 7,000 properties in the town, is due to start at the end of the year bringing available accommodation that the town desperately needs.
