Gardeners need to check home insurance policies
Homeowners intent on using the warm summer weather to improve their gardens have been urged to check their home insurance policies.
According to financial data collection and research company Defaqto, many keen gardeners do not think about how much their garden contents are worth.
This means that they may not be fully covered if items are either stolen or damaged.
"Consumers should consider the amount of cover provided by their insurer for contents kept in the garden," commented Mike Powell, consultant for general insurance at Defaqto.
"Consumers do not always consider the true value of their garden and should take care to understand the extent of the cover on offer."
With expensive items such as water features, decking, garden furniture, outside lighting, gas barbecues and swing seats found in many gardens, the importance of adequate home insurance is clearly apparent.
