Floods highlight need for adequate home insurance

Flash floods in the West Country have emphasised the importance of adequate home insurance and motor insurance policies, the Association of British Insurers says.
Torrential rain forced many people from their homes in the worst-affected areas of south Somerset last night (Thursday), with Met Office figures showing 22mm of rain fell in East Harptree between 18:00 and 21:00.
According to Nick Starling, director of general insurance at the ABI, the most pressing concern for homeowners who have been affected by the flooding is to notify their insurance company of their situation immediately.
"These events highlight just how important insurance protection is. If you have been affected by flooding, contact your insurance company. Their priority is to deal with all claims as quickly as possible," he commented.
Another important thing to do is to carry out temporary repairs to ensure further damage is avoided. If receipts are kept, costs can be claimed back later from an insurance company.
