Fireman rescues woman while off duty
An off duty retained firefighter has saved a woman's life in a instinctual move after hearing the ladies fire alarm whilst on a walk with his girlfriend. Mr Prosser has been a retained firefighter for 15 years giving him plenty of experience and knowledge to help rescue the unconscious woman.
The incident occurred after a plastic bin had been accidentally set alight causing a fire within the kitchen of the house. Upon inspection by the occupant she became overwhelmed by the toxic smoke that caused her to loose consciousness.
It was at this point when Mr Prosser heard the fire alarm and came to her rescue, removing her from the building and calling emergency services of the fire.
He said: "The working smoke alarms saved the life of the occupier, as the smoke issuing from the plastic bin was toxic and the room was heavily smoke logged. Had the premises not been fitted with a working smoke alarm, then possibly no-one would have been alerted to the fire within the premises until it was too late."
