Family saves contents insurance by battling flood
A family in Ballymoney combined hard work, perseverance and several wheelie bins to combat the flooding that almost destroyed so much of their home this weekend, it has been reported.
The flooding in Northern Ireland has already caused millions of pounds worth of damage to residential and business properties
However, one family who suffered water damage to their downstairs business managed to prevent thousands of pounds of extra damage being done to their home upstairs.
"It was bad enough that water did come in to the hallway but there was no way I was going to let the rest of the house get destroyed. It was a battle against time but we did it," explained Shirley Lyons in the Ballymoney Times.
"It was very worrying but we worked hard and scooped the water into jugs and buckets and then into wheelie bins which the neighbours brought round."
Thanks to around eight wheelie bins of water being scooped out, the Lyons family prevented their home from being destroyed by the weekend's floods.
