Family home spared destruction thanks to neighbours
A family home has been saved from absolute devastation by alert neighbours, it has been reported.
Neighbours leaving their home in Moorhead, Minnesota were eagle-eyed enough to spot what appeared to be steam coming from the family's house next door, and alerted the authorities.
Fire services came out to extinguish the blaze but smoke damage had left much of the house needing attention.
West Fargo fire chief Roy Schatschneider said that "it had the potential of getting to be a very severe fire", although the real damage will have been done by the thick black smoke.
"Smoke damage is [going to] be far worse than fire damage," Schatschneider told the Forum News.
Homeowners can protect themselves against the financial costs of repairing or replacing goods damaged by fire by purchasing home contents insurance.
