Domestic house fire claims another victim
Domestic fires are one of the UK's largest civilian killers. Fire is unprejudiced towards its victims claiming people of all ages, genders, race and backgrounds and it can be at any time, when you least expect it. Fires started in the night are often far more fatal than ones during the day, as the Vulcan's fiery fingers can quickly take hold of furnishings undiscovered and often undetected by human eyes.
During the day there is a greater chance that homeowners are either absent from the building or will spot the flames in their early stages and many more escape with their lives intact. Home insurance can often be a lifesaver for the survivors of domestic fires because although they may have escaped with their lives often belongings are left devastated by fire damage.
However in Dundee, Doreen Cree was claimed as fire's latest victim as a fire started shortly after midnight on Sunday 13 December at her home. Tayside Fires and Rescue were called to the scene to assist Cree and other neighbours sharing the same apartment block. A spokesman from the fire service said that there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding the flames in Cree's ground floor flat.
Cree was taken to the nearby Ninewells Hospital and another elderly gentleman was treated by ambulance crews after sustaining several injuries. However, although Cree's neighbour has released from treatment, Cree herself was unlucky and later announced deceased as a result of her injuries.
