Damage brings a sense of community

Six in ten people will call round to check on elderly relatives, friends or neighbours after bad weather, which is bringing back a 'sense of community' in areas which used to be regarded as isolated.

With one in ten householders suffering some form of weather damage within the past five years - in a quarter of instances, to the indoors in the form of water leaks, for example, it is not just flood victims who need help from those around them.

Lloyd Wilson, head Of Abbey home insurance product development, explains: "Bad weather damage is a costly inconvenience and for some people, especially in flood areas, it is becoming a yearly nightmare.

"Our research shows that the risk of damage to our homes is an ever-increasing reality and we need to be prepared for it. The British weather is highly unpredictable but we can all ensure that, should the worst happen, we are correctly insured"

Homeowners should check that their home insurance provider is aware of outbuildings and sheds, especially if they contain valuable contents, or they may experience difficulties in the event of a claim.ADNFCR-1193-ID-18439807-ADNFCR
