Couple look forward to £70 a year fuel bill
A couple in West Yorkshire have found a way to cut their energy bills by building an energy efficient home.
The home, which will be completed by February next year has been based on the German Passivhaus, rather than being overrun with wind turbines and solar panels. With the use of British construction techniques they have created their ideal home, which will cost them only £70 in energy bills each year.
Mr and Mrs Tunstall are currently building their energy friendly home in Huddersfield. Every little piece of the design has taken into consideration how they will benefit most from the warmth of the building and the sun, starting with insulation which is 15 times more than standard, the main windows of the home are also facing the sun to absorb as much of its heat as possible.
A mechanical heat recovery system has been built in to the home, so that the only air that can get in and out is at a constant temperature, and will continually provide fresh air as the home has been built so that no other air can enter or escape.
The home is being built on a budget of £140,000; this is slightly more than a normal three bedroom home, however in the long run the savings will be reflected on the state of the planet and also their energy bills.
