British homes to become more crowded

Posted on October 16th 2008

A recent survey looking into Britons' property needs has found that a significant proportion of potential buyers would be open to the idea of buying a home with their in-laws or parents.

The survey, conducted by a major UK mortgage lender, found that 26 per cent of buyers would consider buying a larger house in order to accommodate family members outside their immediate family.

Forty three per cent of this group said that they would make such a purchase - or even extend their existing home - in order to accommodate parents or parents-in-law.

However, the decision to move more people into one home comes with potentially unseen strings attached.
