Avoid 'shed-loads' of problems with firework celebrations

AA home insurance is urging householders to check their home insurance policies to ensure that garden accessories, decking, outbuildings and children's' playhouses are covered.

Two thirds of Brits now own a garden shed, and one in five own a greenhouse, and although fences and other additions may be covered already, one in five people surveyed admitted that they had not checked their policies, and were not sure if they had any garden cover at all.

Janet Pell, head of AA home insurance, says: "The garden is an increasingly central part of our living space, all year round, yet we have a worryingly cavalier attitude towards insuring the property outside our homes.

"Every year Guy Fawkes celebrations wreak havoc in gardens across the country, so we need to make sure we've protected our outdoor property."

The AA has also asked people to check that they have adequate third party liability cover, so that accidents causing damage to neighbours' property do not cause disputes, and has issued a warning that burglars may use the excitement and noise of fireworks as cover.
