Attempts at homemade fuel could backfire without home insurance
With the costs of living showing no signs of coming back down, more and more people are turning to making their own car fuel, it has been reported.
The home production of biodiesel - from cooking oil - may well be more synonymous with 1970s self-sufficiency fanatics that today's modern world of technology but, despite oil prices calming down somewhat, the practice is said to be back up and running.
While production of biodiesel is in fact legal, and tax-free for the first 2,500 litres, making a mistake in producing such a chemical is not only extremely dangerous but also costly.
One Northampton man recently destroyed part of his home in an attempt to create biodiesel, and was left with 20 per cent burns.
However there are far safer ways to save money, such as installing green power generators to a home, or insulation.
