All pulling together to afford insurance
People living in social housing, who tend to put off taking out individual insurance policies because of the cost, may be able to become part of a scheme to share a reduced price service.
The summer flooding last year highlighted how many people were left completely uninsured after effectively being priced out of any choice.
Peter Staddon, head of technical services at the British Insurance Brokers' Association (Biba) said: "What we have been doing is working with the Treasury, working with partners, working with a variety of people in looking to raise the issues and trying to make sure that the people on lower incomes have access to market.
"What we would do is reduce the sums insured, reduce the type of cover they would have, and reduce it down so that they would have some sort of cover so that in the event that there was a flood or a fire or a major storm then they would get some compensation."
